The importance of core values can never be overemphasized. They underlie how we work, interact with colleagues and the way we go about achieving set goals. Not everyone knows what core values entail, while the few that know, tend to see them for example, as the necessary words, jargons or phrases that need to be memorized and fused into behavioral systems just to scale an interview panel, or sound nice in a motivational speech.

Certain value systems affect workplace performance and general behavior, which is why companies lay special emphasis on values and how to manage the aforementioned in the workplace. They make these values a part of everyday work life by talking about it, using signposts and other methods. Although these methods of transferring values are effective to an extent, there are methods that deliver better results in record time, for example, storytelling.

One reason stories are powerful? They serve as proof, reinforcing core values as actively present in the organization’s actions, interactions, and decisions. Stories about critical moments — when people in the organization had a choice between falling short or standing tall when it comes to core values — prove that the values aren’t just empty words on the wall or website. — https://coetichr.com/reinforcing-core-values-stories/

A simple example of this method can be seen in the way Andela shares her value system in the guise of a story. She describes excellence, passion, integrity, and collaboration in a story that depicts growth in a world class tech ecosystem. Her staff embody these values and transfer them to the world consciously and unconsciously. They also transfer this story to a generation of aspiring developers who in turn nurse the intent to become world-class developers.
